Power of Thunder

DSC_2144.jpg

This visual art is a combination of colored pencil drawing and painting.  It is made up of numerous selections of paper.  The depiction reflects Chief Seattle in a Puget Sound Longhouse.  This art is all about this great Northwest chieftain of the 1800s and his spiritual gifts.

Chief Seattle was known to sing a traditional native spiritual song known as "The Power of Thunder".  The two side figures are depicted holding thunderbird rattle figures.  Each white dot represents the rite of a particular spiritual working song.  This extraordinary piece of art takes us on a journey to a place of distant memories.

A Native People who co-existed with the natural world for ten thousand years or more, setting some examples that are still observed today.
